Product Description

Sathva Red rice idiyappam flour is made similarly to traditional white rice idiyappam flour but uses red rice (Maapillai Samba Rice)  instead.

Red rice is rinsed and soaked to soften the rice, making it easier to grind into a fine powder. The powder is further sieved to ensure the flour is fine and smooth, which is essential for making perfect idiyappam/string hopper.

With this Sathva homemade red rice idiyappam flour, you can prepare unique and nutritious idiyappam at home.

Uses of red rice idiyappam flour

Red rice idiyappam flour, besides making traditional idiyappam, can be creatively used in various other culinary applications. Here are some ideas:

Red Rice Pasta:

  • Use the flour to make pasta dough. Roll it out and cut into shapes like fettuccine or spaghetti. Cook the pasta and serve with your favorite sauces or toss with vegetables and olive oil for a nutritious meal.

Red Rice Waffles:

    • Make waffle batter using red rice idiyappam flour mixed with eggs, milk (or plant-based milk), and a touch of baking powder. Cook in a waffle iron and serve with fruits, yogurt, or maple syrup for a hearty breakfast or brunch option.

Red Rice Crepes:

Prepare crepe batter using the flour, eggs, and milk. Cook thin crepes on a skillet and fill with sweet or savory fillings such as Nutella and berries, or spinach and cheese for a delightful meal.

Red Rice Crackers:

  1. Make crispy crackers by mixing the flour with water, oil, and herbs or spices. Roll out thinly, cut into squares or shapes, and bake until golden brown. Enjoy as a snack on their own or with dips and spreads.

  2. Red Rice Pizza Base

Use red rice idiyappam flour to make a gluten-free pizza crust. Mix with water, olive oil, and seasoning, then roll out into a pizza shape. Bake until crisp, add toppings, and bake again until toppings are cooked.

Benefits of red rice flour

Red rice contains anthocyanins and other antioxidants that help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.

Red rice idiyappam flour retains the bran layer of the rice, which is rich in dietary fiber. Fiber aids digestion, promotes bowel regularity, and helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

Like other rice flours, red rice idiyappam flour is naturally gluten-free, making it suitable for individuals with gluten intolerance or celiac disease.

Red rice has a lower glycemic index compared to white rice. This makes it a preferable choice for managing blood sugar levels, especially for people with diabetes.
